Easter Egg Hunts Return in Hamlet, Culver on Saturday

The Town of Hamlet is adjusting its annual Easter Egg Hunt slightly, to allow it to go ahead during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told the town’s park board last week that all of the age groups will still hunt for eggs at the same time, but they might be spread out more than usual.

Social distancing will be encouraged, and residents are being asked to follow the guidelines in the governor’s face mask order, which remains in effect for a few more days. Even the Easter Bunny will have to practice social distancing, according to Pitts.

“I think he might just be there walking around taking pictures, instead of having them like sit down,” Pitts said. “I think if the Easter Bunny walks around and just stands behind the kid and the parents can take pictures would be okay.”

The pandemic forced the cancellation of most kids’ activities last spring, and even last fall, trick-or-treating was still somewhat uncertain. During a previous Hamlet Town Council meeting, President Dave Kesvormas felt that it was important that town officials find a way to let the Easter Egg Hunt take place.

“With all this going on, people being cooped up, I know with mask mandates and stuff, I think we need to figure out or at least keep our ears open, if there’s some way to just keep it going, whether there’s a way to socially distance them,” Kesvormas said.

The Hamlet Easter Egg Hunt takes place Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in and around the Hamlet Town Park.

Hamlet isn’t the only local community doing the event. The Town of Culver will hold its Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning at 11:00 EDT with age groups spread throughout the Town Park.
