The Hamlet Town Council is expected to consider a resolution outlining building inspection requirements tonight. The language proposed by Council President Dave Kesvormas would leave it up to the developer to hire a licensed home inspector.
At the last meeting, Kesvormas suggested further clarifying that any inspector would have to provide a copy of their valid license to the town before being allowed to do work there. “It goes back to the deeper concerns that are all over the area,” Kesvormas said. “In Marshall County, LaPorte County, as well as in Starke County, as well as the Town of Hamlet, there are issues with the building inspectors, period. Is it a necessity? Yeah, absolutely it is.”
Hamlet has been without a building inspector for years. The resolution would also solidify a list of incentives for new home development.
Tonight’s Hamlet Town Council meeting will take place at Hamlet Town Hall, following the 6:30 p.m. zoning board meeting.
