La Porte County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Car/Pedestrian Accident

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department deputies investigated a car vs. pedestrian accident Tuesday night. 

Officers were called to the area of U.S. 421 and County Road 870 S. in rural Clinton Township just before 9 p.m. CT after receiving calls about a man walking northbound on U.S. 421.  When officers arrived, they learned that the man had been struck by a vehicle, according to the report.

Police say a preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian was standing in the southbound lane of travel on U.S. 421 when he was hit by a gray 2016 Volkswagon passenger vehicle.

The pedestrian, 36-year-old Tierus D. Lucas of Mishawaka, passed away at the scene.  The driver was not injured, according to police. 

Toxicology tests are pending as part of a routine accident investigation of this nature. 

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Coroner’s Office, Cass-Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, and John’s Garage.
