LaPorte County is keeping its mask mandate through the end of April. County Health Officer Dr. Sandra Deausy officially extended the mask requirement through April 30 in a health order Thursday.
Individuals are required to wear a face covering whenever they’re in an indoor area open to the public or an outdoor area where social distancing can’t be maintained. Social gatherings are limited to 100 people or 50 percent of a facility’s capacity. Businesses are asked to follow social distancing guidelines.
The order cites LaPorte County’s 6.49-percent positivity rate and yellow status on the state’s county metrics map. However, the order does state that violations won’t create grounds for arrest or citation by law enforcement.
The LaPorte County Health Department says it’ll review the order at the end of the month. The statewide mask mandate and gathering restrictions end Tuesday for the most part, but only in locations where the local health department isn’t taking action to keep them.
