A few road projects in the tri-county area will be funded by INDOT Community Crossings Matching Grant funds.
The Town of Winamac is the recipient of $126,225 which will be used to improve the west entrance to the Winamac Town Park by easing the slope of Main Street east of Riverside Drive. The town is expected to provide a 25 percent match.
Marshall County received the maximum $1 million request. Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters previously said the projects include Michigan from U.S. 31 to Argos City Limits, West Shore from city limits to South Shore in Culver, 3A Road from East Shore to Plymouth-Goshen Trail, Muckshaw from 13th to 14th Road, and Sycamore from U.S. 6 to 4B Road. The county would provide the match of $508,777 which the council previously approved this year.
Governor Eric Holcomb said in a press conference Thursday that millions of dollars have helped communities in this “popular partnership program” since 2016.
“It really does get asphalt and concrete on the ground,” stated Holcomb. “It makes our communities safer, first and foremost, it makes them more economically – in terms of development – more attractive. It’s connecting dots that have been talked about for years and years and years. When you step back and you think since 2016 it’s $930+ million state dollars that are partnering with those local dollars so it really is a lot of bang for our bucks.”
A second call for projects will open in July.
