A Michigan City woman was arrested Wednesday morning after leading La Porte County police on a pursuit through the county.
La Porte County deputies were notified around 8:15 a.m. CT of a reckless driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. 20 from the area of County Road 400 W. An officer reportedly had to pull over onto the shoulder of the road to avoid a head-on collision with the suspect’s vehicle.
A traffic stop was initiated in the 3500 North block of Fail Road and as the deputy was about to exit the squad car, the driver suddenly sped off, according to the report. Police say the driver missed two tire deflation devices before traveling off the roadway, and into the lawn and into a tree line at a residence on County Road 300 S.
The driver, 39-year-old Judith Taylor, was arrested on preliminary felony charges of resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness, and misdemeanor charges of aggressive driving and reckless driving.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the La Porte City Police Department and the Westville Police Department.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
