North Judson-San Pierre School Board Approves Summer School Offerings

North Judson-San Pierre school officials are putting their summer school plans together. A list of potential course offerings was recently approved by the school board.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said N.J.-S.P. plans to offer its usual IREAD and elementary remediation, along with a high ability program. “They typically have a week-long enrichment program, and that is using high-ability money,” Zupin told board members. “I think they want to do this again. Of course with the whole COVID, we’ll kind of play that by ear, but I would like to be able to do that, if they can.”

N.J.-S.P. will also offer the Supervised Agriculture Experience, which gives students the opportunity to earn credit for FFA projects. While the school board agreed to let officials offer those courses, Zupin said they’ll only actually take place if there are enough students. The cost is typically covered by state or other outside funding.

The school corporation will also serve as a host site for the Starke County Youth Club and the USDA Summer Food Service Program. Zupin said the plan is to go back to serving the free meals to students on campus, rather than driving around to multiple locations.
