The mask mandate in Starke County will be extended through the end of May.
Starke County Health Department officials say the number of COVID-19 cases has increased in the past three weeks, as much as five to eight times as many cases from three weeks ago.
Starke County Health Nurse Frank Lynch said the situation will be evaluated again in the next 30 days. At that time, a decision will be made on whether or not to lift the mandate.
Until then, residents are encouraged to wear a mask when out in public and maintain a six foot social distance from residents who are not members of the household. Residents are urged to stay home when sick. Contact a healthcare provider for guidance on COVID-19 testing based on symptoms.
