More people have been heading outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Winamac Town Park is proving to be a popular destination. During Thursday’s park board meeting, Board Secretary Kim Burke said she’s been getting five or six shelter reservations per day. Town manager and board member Brad Zellers added that there have even been some April reservations, something not typically seen.
Board President Chris Schramm said the park has been busy recently. “I don’t know if anybody’s noticed, where that pickleball court is, when it’s a Saturday or Sunday night, that is packed, which I like to see that,” Schramm said.
Town officials said they haven’t heard yet whether organized tubing excursions will return to the Town Park this year, after largely being absent during 2020.
Schramm began Thursday’s meeting by thanking former park manager Dave DeLorenzo and welcoming the new manager, Aaron Spanley. Spanley told the board he’s glad to have the opportunity, and said he has big ambitions to make the park look good and have everyone proud of the work he’s doing.
