The Winamac Town Park could soon have a clearer visual link from downtown, thanks to some help from a local boy scout. RJ Link is looking at adding brick pillars on either side of Main Street as part of a proposed Eagle Scout project. He recently told the town’s park board that the idea is to form a gateway to the “swinging bridge.”
But the project will have to work around road construction. The town plans to cut down the hill on Main Street by a few feet and widen the pavement. Adding to the logistical challenge is that town manager and park board member Brad Zellers wasn’t sure exactly when that work would take place. “Hopefully, June-ish,” Zellers said. “We haven’t heard back yet from the grant, yet, that we put in for Community Crossings. So it’s all dependent on that and scheduling with the contractor.”
Letting Link start working on the pillars off-site and then transport them to Main Street was mentioned as a possibility. Zellers said he’d like to see more information about what materials he plans to use, before the project gets underway.
