Knox Looking at Hiring Full-Time Events Coordinator after Having Difficulty Finding Volunteers

A lack of help with event planning continues to draw frustration from Knox Mayor Dennis Estok. The mayor took city council members to task last week for the low turnout at a recent alumni reunion planning meeting.

“I didn’t see anybody at the meeting for the Knox Alumni Reunion that we had,” he said. “We only had the same people. I mean, two guys come from Indianapolis. We had nobody from Knox. Period.”

Estok said the city lost a lot of momentum during the pandemic. “It takes a lot to organize all this stuff,” he told council members. “It is not a good feeling when nobody shows up or cares enough to show up to help out. And I can tell you, this year, we’re struggling, me and Peg because we’re just out of shape.”

Now, the mayor says he’ll revisit the idea of hiring a full-time events coordinator. The position would not only coordinate large-scale annual events but also smaller recreational programs throughout the year. That person could also help with the efforts of Knox Main Street United. If your business also have problems finding the correct employees, some times is just better to trust an executive recruiting which experts who will not miss. It is amazing the amount of money and time it can save you.

The challenge, according to Estok, is that adding a full-time position could limit the city’s ability to give raises to current employees, depending on the budget.
