Pulaski County has hired a new maintenance director and head custodian, as the Maintenance Department restructuring moves ahead. Larry Weaver was appointed maintenance director by the county commissioners Monday. Tammy Pack is the new head custodian.
But they won’t know for sure what their salaries are until at least next week. Commissioner Chuck Mellon has suggested that paying more for a maintenance director with additional expertise could lead to significant savings on outside repair costs.
He proposed to the county council last month an annual maintenance director salary of $52,000, along with $35,000 a year for the head custodian. The restructuring would expand both of those positions from 35 to 40 hours per week and cut the number of part-time jobs from four to two. That alone could save over $25,000 a year, according to Mellon.
Both the council and commissioners agreed to begin the process of expanding the positions to 40 hours a week. But no dollar amounts have officially been set, and no changes have been made to the salary matrix. Those issues may be addressed during next week’s council meeting.
