The Starke Circuit Court Probation Division was recently awarded funds from the Indiana Department of Corrections for the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI) programs.
JDAI Coordinator and Adult/Juvenile Probation Officer Abby White says $36,400 was received from the Indiana Department of Corrections. She added that JDAI provides a framework of strategies that help reduce the inappropriate use of secure juvenile detention while maintaining public safety and court appearance rates.
A grant amendment was recently approved for $29,520 which will provide additional funding support and iPads for the Starke County Youth Club. It will also help support the Second Step program at Oregon-Davis which is designed to assist students with developing skills to become better students and decision-makers. Funding will also allow for training of two staff facilitators to be trained in Real Colors, a program designed to help students, staff, parents, and juvenile justice stakeholders to develop skills to have better judgment skills.
