Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident at State Road 8 and State Road 23 Tuesday evening.
Deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department say 48-year-old Paulene Tibbs of Walkerton was traveling northbound on State Road 23 around 6:45 p.m. CT and reportedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection with State Road 8. Tibbs’ vehicle struck a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Dwight Minix of Knox that was traveling westbound on State Road 8. Minix’s vehicle ended up on its side in a field while Tibbs’ vehicle came to rest off the northwest side of the intersection.
Both drivers were injured along with a passenger in Minix’s vehicle. They were all transported to a South Bend hospital for treatment. Two were airlifted from the scene. The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS, Washington Township Fire Department, Koontz Lake Fire Department and Knox-Center Township Fire Department.
