Several participants in programs with Starke County Court Services/Community Corrections Division are successful in completing those programs to make better life choices.
The organization has highlighted a few cases on its Facebook page.
Programs include Decision Points and Moral Reconation Therapy.
Decision Points, a 12-week program, gives participants alternative ways to examine their thinking and the related actions that got them into legal trouble. According to Community Corrections, the program targets “antisocial thoughts and skill deficits through an interactive behavioral approach. Each session includes homework, and group practice (role playing) of content.” The organization has three staff members that are trained facilitators in this program.
Moral Reconation Therapy, an approximate 16-week program, is a “cognitive-behavioral treatment system that leads to enhanced moral reasoning, better decision making, and more appropriate behavior.” Starke County Community Corrections has two staff members that are trained facilitators in this program.
According to Community Corrections Director Shawn Mattraw, there are 53 people under the supervision of the organization and all participants are offered to take part in the programs at the discretion of the probation officer.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate receives a certificate and has learned the tools needed to discontinue destructive behavior.
