Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Monday night at the intersection of State Road 39 and 50 S. in North Judson.
Emergency responders were notified of the accident at 10:16 p.m. CT where deputies found two vehicles in a corn field with heavy damage, according to the report. According to the preliminary investigation, 34-year-old Brandi Pilarczyk of Valparaiso allegedly disregarded a stop sign and caused a collision with a vehicle driven by 68-year-old Dennis Clemons of North Judson.
Clemons was found deceased at the scene. The family has been notified.
Police say Pilarczyk was airlifted from the scene and flown to a South Bend hospital for treatment.
Information gathered about the accident is expected to be reviewed by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office as speed and alcohol may be factors in the crash, according to police.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department, North Judson Police Department, and Starke County Coroner Jack Rosa.
