Only one new COVID-19 case was reported in the local area Thursday. A Marshall County resident has tested positive, according to the Indiana Department of Health dashboard. The state as a whole continues to see increases in the number of new cases and the positivity rate.
More than 16,000 Marshall County residents are now fully vaccinated, along with almost 6,600 people in Starke County and more than 4,400 in Pulaski County. You can make a vaccination appointment at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211. The shots are free, but insurance information is requested for those who have it.
Those insurance reimbursements then go to the Indiana Department of Health or local providers to help offset the costs of administering the vaccine, according to State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box. “Some people have suggested that because the vaccine order has my name on it, that I or the State Department of Health will profit from the vaccines and those administrative fees. That’s absolutely false,” Box said during a press conference last week.
Box said the first round of payments to providers is expected to total more than $14 million.
