North Judson officials are working to confirm INDOT’s plans for State Road 10, before replacing the fence around Pioneer Cemetery. Last month, the town council approved a quote for almost $32,000 from White Fencing to replace the current chain link fence, while upgrading the portion along State Road 10 to black aluminum. During Monday’s town council meeting, council member Matt Brewer said White was ready to start installation in a couple weeks.
But Town Attorney Justin Schramm said that INDOT needs about a hundredth of an acre of the town’s property for next year’s resurfacing and sidewalk project. Now, it’s offering the town $1,000 for it. He recommended accepting the offer, both because INDOT will acquire it one way or another through eminent domain but also because INDOT was helpful in not making the town pay back its railroad grant.
But first, council members wanted to make sure the town doesn’t put up a new fence just to have it torn down. Town Superintendent Joe Leszek agreed to double check on INDOT’s project specifications, before moving forward.
