Masks will be optional and there will be no virtual option, when North Judson-San Pierre students return to class next month. The school board approved a continuous learning plan Tuesday.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said the school corporation will follow CDC and Indiana Department of Health guidelines. “Now, masks are mandatory on the bus,” she noted. “Right now, that’s a CDC requirement and mandate because it is public transportation. We will monitor that. If that changes, we may change our stance on that. Regarding close contacts, if you are a vaccinated close contact, staff or student, you do not need to quarantine. You should monitor your symptoms, but because you’ve been vaccinated, you do not need to quarantine.”
But the plan also outlines N.J.-S.P.’s interventions for possible learning loss. Zupin said the school corporation will use federal ESSER money to continue interventions for elementary reading and math at all grade levels. That funding will also be used for additional student support services staff.
On top of that, the school board agreed to use some of the ESSER money to provide one-time stipends. “It’s a way to reward staff members for their extra duties during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically, last school year,” Zupin said.
Full-time employees will get $1,500, while part-time workers will get $800.
