More Than 500 Starke County Residents Sign Up for Food Voucher Program

Applications have closed for the Starke County Food Distribution Program. County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich says more than 500 residents have applied for the food voucher program, and everyone who provided all the requested information and didn’t have double entries in the system will be eligible.

Individuals can pick up their vouchers August 4 through August 16 at the Auditor’s Office in Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 East Mound Street in Knox. The Auditor’s Office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those picking up vouchers are asked to have their picture ID ready and to be prepared for the possibility of long wait times.

Those vouchers can only be redeemed until August 17. After that, Oesterreich expects to be able to offer a second round of vouchers, but it will be limited to those who’ve already signed up.

Vouchers can be redeemed at Five Star in Knox or Grand Central Grocery in North Judson. Vouchers are only valid on food items and must be presented with a state-issued ID. They have to have the auditor’s original seal, and they won’t be replaced if lost or stolen.

The Starke County Food Distribution Program is funded with $150,000 the county got from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs COVID-19 Response Program.
