The tornado siren in the Town of North Judson is undergoing an upgrade.
Utility Superintendent Joe Leszek told the North Judson Town Council members Monday that crews from Minor Electronics were recently testing the siren and will have to come back to install new cables and programming for it.
Additionally, Leszek said an effort was made to determine if angle parking is an option on Lane Street and on Main Street.
“Per the state standards, we’re not going to be able to angle parking over at Fingerhut Bakery,” explained Leszek. “The state requires so wide and so long for normal vehicles and that would put us more in the middle of the intersection so we’d have to just go with kind of the normal parking along the curb. We’ve got all of the information and that so if at some point we want to get moving on that we can.”
Beyond that, Leszek said Peerless Midwest representatives have been at the North Judson Water Department. They are attempting to get quotes for potential projects to be funded by CARES Act and ARPA funds. They include upgrading well 2, redoing filters and piping at the water department. He said getting these projects done with federal funds the town will receive will help the budget in the next few years.
“We’ll have like a new water department hopefully by the end of the year or early next year. They’re still working on their last quotes and pricing and a couple of others so we’ll have three quotes hopefully to present here shortly so we can get moving on that.”
