Starke County Council Approves Revenue Loss Estimate Study by Baker Tilly

The Starke County Council members approved a request from Auditor Rachel Oesterreich concerning the completion of a revenue loss estimate study.

In a previous meeting, Todd Samuelson from Baker Tilly said the full impact of the pandemic may hit in 2022 so the Starke County Council and Starke County Commissioners should plan for future revenue losses in a plan to be assembled in the next few months.

Additionally, the loss in highway funds, jail revenue, EMS revenue, and income and property taxes were initial concerns, but a deeper look into revenue comparisons from 2019 to 2020 and 2021 will show a bigger picture of the losses.

The commissioners already agreed to approve the study and the council voted 6-1 to approve the study at a cost of $3,000 to be taken from the commissioner’s budget.  Starke County Councilman Todd Leinbach cast the lone dissenting vote.
