Starke County residents who need help paying for food can now sign up for the county’s new food distribution program. Every two weeks, approved applicants will be able to pick up $100 food vouchers at the Starke County Auditor’s Office. The vouchers can then be used at either Five Star in Knox or Grand Central Grocery in North Judson.
The Starke County Food Distribution Program is funded with $150,000 the county got from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs COVID-19 Response Program. Auditor Rachel Oesterreich says the first vouchers will be available August 4. They will continue to be available every two weeks until the funding is used up. The online application can be found on Starke County’s website.
A picture ID will be required when using the voucher. The Auditor’s Office recommends that those who don’t have internet access at home visit their local library. Call the Auditor’s Office at 574-772-9101 for more information.
