Oregon-Davis has added a director of student services. Carrie Miller was officially hired by the school board last week, at the recommendation of Superintendent Bill Bennett.
“She’ll be helping us with our Title I programs, our high ability and enrichment programs, probably our McKinney-Vento liaison, and some other hats, as well as assisting [Principal B.J.] Awald as the dean of students at the high school,” Bennett explained. “She has an extensive background, as well, in Title I and RTI. I think she’ll be a really, really good fit to the school and the community.”
Bennett previously said the new position would help Awald be more productive and allow him to focus more on curriculum at both schools.
Meanwhile, Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School has a new industrial technology teacher. Joe Veger comes to O-D after stints in Knox and Logansport. “So Joe’s going to be able to bring us a lot of different programs we haven’t offered in the past, as well as starting to get to our Next Level Pathways and be able to get some of those courses that we all expressed interest in a couple meetings ago, and I think I told guys, ‘Well, you just can’t find people to teach those.’ So I stand corrected,” Bennett said.
Veger is interested in bringing a SkillsUSA chapter to Oregon-Davis. He told board members that it would give students opportunities to compete in national competitions and earn scholarships. The school board was scheduled to finalize hiring for the upcoming school year during a special meeting Tuesday.
