Keep your pets safe from the summer heat. That’s the message from Knox Mayor Dennis Estok.
“If you have a pet, you need to make sure you have shelter for that pet, and you also need to make sure you have water for that pet,” Estok said during Tuesday’s city council meeting. “And in all cases, if you can bring that pet in during the heat of the day, bring it in because sometimes it’s dangerous for animals out there. A lot of people do not take care of them.” If you notice any signs of heat exhaustion in your pets, bring them to a dog care facility immediately.
Estok reminded the city council that Knox has an ordinance in place requiring residents to take care of their pets. “I usually send the ordinance guy out when it gets like this,” he explained, “and if there’s any violators, he’ll go to their door, to either put them inside, give them water, or whatever they’re not doing right.”
The National Weather Service reminds individuals not to leave pets and young children unattended in vehicles. A Heat Advisory is in effect today from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CDT.
