The Starke County Council members approved an additional appropriation out of the Jail CEDIT fund at their most recent meeting to purchase a Tek84 Intercept whole body scanner for the Starke County Justice Center.
Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin previously explained to county officials that the body scanner would help address challenges with the intake process for jail inmates. It could possibly save a life in case a person who is being booked into the jail ingested drugs. It is just another resource in order to find drugs on an offender’s person to avoid detection.
The Starke County Commissioners previously supported the request and the council approved the purchase in an earlier meeting.
The cost of the body scanner is $175,000 which comes with a four year warranty.
