Starke County Council Holds Public Hearings on Budgets

The Starke County Council members opened public hearings on several budgets when they met Monday night.

Starke County Councilman Todd Leinbach had questions about the Starke County Airport’s budget and why fuel prices are lower than surrounding areas.  Attorney Charlie Weaver commented that the lower costs drive traffic to the airport.  When prices were comparable, there was hardly any traffic and the airport wants the business.  There are no issues with the budget with the fuel costs.  The airport’s proposed budget is about $1.4 million

There was a question about the Starke County Solid Waste District budget.  It had an increase for TV recycling and the purchase of security cameras which seemed fine by the council members.  The proposed budget is about $289,000.

There were no public comments on any of the other hearings held Monday night.  Those hearings included the proposed county budget which totals just over $17.6 million, North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation’s budget at about $12.8 million, and the Koontz Lake Conservancy District’s budget which is about $440,000.

These are estimated advertised budgets as seen on the Indiana Gateway’s website.  The budget adoption date for all budgets mentioned is September 20.
