UPDATE Starke County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Fatal Accident

The Starke County Coroner’s Office released the names of two people who died at the scene of a crash at the intersection of State Road 10 and U.S. 35 in Starke County Saturday night.

According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, the driver of a pickup was traveling east on State Road 10 at 6:13 p.m. CT and reportedly did come to a stop at the intersection with U.S. 35 and attempted to make a left turn.  The driver of the pickup allegedly did not see a motorcycle traveling north on U.S. 35 at the intersection and an accident occurred between the pickup and the motorcycle.   

The driver of the motorcycle, 39-year-old Ronald Black, of Pendleton, Indiana, and passenger 38-year-old Melissa Murphy, of Yelm, Washington were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.  Families have been notified.

The driver of the pickup, 55-year-old Sobczak Stanislaw, of Hickory Hills, Illinois, was not injured. 

Routine toxicology tests are pending on both drivers. 

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the Starke County Coroner’s Office were assisted at the scene by the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department, North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department, Starke County EMS.
