Parent Asks Eastern Pulaski School Board to Include Programs to Deter Bullying

A concerned parent of an Eastern Pulaski School Corporation student asked the school board earlier this month to include programs to deter ongoing issues with bullying.

The parent asked what the school can do to stop the fighting, threats, drug use, teenage pregnancy and help the students be successful and finish high school.  She said talking to students is not enough and recommended enacting a “scared straight” program.

Superintendent Dara Chezem responded noting that students have access to three free sessions with Four County Counseling who may benefit from it.  The corporation is also partnering with the Pulaski County Probation Department and other community partners to change behaviors.

She commented that strategic planning is also in the works that includes providing life skills and recommending the implementation of good choice options for students moving forward.  Many times, she said, the school corporation has boundaries with what can be provided as there are legal limits, but she is always open to suggestions from parents.

The parent said she will help gather information for the superintendent about possible programs which Chezem will review with a possible presentation to the board in a future meeting.
