Work continues on the Pulaski County Justice Center in Winamac.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer presented an update to the Pulaski County Council members Monday night. Due to delays in the arrival of steel and changes in the schedule, Origer said the Prosecutor’s Office is going to move into the East Annex as a way to save money in the project’s contingency budget. To ensure that the said move is within budget, services like a international moving cost quote may be needed.
Origer stated, “Tentatively, we think we have an arrangement whereby the Prosecutor’s Office will be able to move to the upper level of the Annex where CASA and the ALC [Adult Learning Center] currently operate. Extension is going to let the Adult Learning Center share their computer lab for the duration instead of using the upstairs classrooms. Prosecutor [Kelly] Gaumer can move all of her staff and they can have the space they need and some of the security mechanisms in place they need for confidential files.”
This would cost only the time it would take to move the office, with the aid of local movers, rather than upwards of $20,000 to rent space.
He thanked Purdue Extension, the Center of Workforce Innovations Adult Learning Center, and CASA for coming together to come up with a workable solution.
Additionally, the roof work is progressing at the Justice Center.
“The replacement of the roof has begun, and they’re ahead of schedule which is nice to see. They’ve encountered some small issues and have had to deal with the commissioners with the existing drains being damaged on the roof and needing to be replaced. That is moving forward,” commented Origer.
Meanwhile, concrete slabs have been poured at the site which should be done by the end of the week.
