Starke County Commissioners Approve Recommendation for EMS Billing

The Starke County EMS Department will have a new billing system after a decision by the Starke County Commissioners Tuesday night.

Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary presented the commissioners with information about AccuMed, a company that specializes in billing for EMS departments.  It is believed that the change will provide additional revenue for Starke County EMS to assist with possible raises and the purchase of equipment.

Several area departments utilize AccuMed to do EMS billing.

Clary does not plan on hiring another part-time person to replace the employee who took over for former clerk Mary Lynn Ritchie which will save money.  About $10,000 a year in current payments with the current billing system would be saved.  AccuMed is expected to get about 5.5 percent of funds collected as part of the contract.

The commissioners unanimously approved the contract.
