The Starke County Park Board members were updated last week about the purchase of kayaks earlier this year.
Park Board President Richard Ballard said the board received a $1,500 from the Starke County Community foundation to purchase kayaks. Eight were purchased from Tractor Supply Company in May, but only three have arrived. Ballard noted that the pandemic has created a bit of a delay in processing their order. A check will be written so Park Superintendent Marc Vendl can pick up those kayaks.
However, there were some kayaks that were ordered that are no longer available. Vendl commented that he will check at some local businesses to see if there are kayaks available in the styles they preferred and will return with an update during the board’s October meeting.
Meanwhile, board member Rik Ritzler said permits for the kayak launches are nearing approval for the Yellow River Kayak Launch.
