The Starke County Planning Commission reviewed additional requests to rezone parcels in the Bass Lake/California Township area for a future solar project.
A public hearing was held on the topic Monday night where parcels owned by the Rentka family and parcels owned the Redlin family west of U.S. 35 were considered for rezoning.
The notice was published for the hearing, but there was no public comment. The Starke County Planning Commission members approved a recommendation to rezone the Rentka property from Residential to Agriculture. The Redlin properties were rezoned from Local Business to Agriculture. The recommendations will now go before the Starke County Commissioners for final approval.
Kevin Parzyck from STE Development LLC previously told the Starke County Planning Commission members that the solar project is moving along. Construction is tentatively set to begin in January with certain civil work. The tracks and panels at rezoned parcels will be installed later in the year with other work continuing through most of 2022. The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2023.
