The Starke County Sheriff’s Department investigated a three-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to the crash at State Road 8 and State Road 23 just before 3:30 p.m. CT. Police say a vehicle driven by Illinois resident, 59-year-old Sandra Gervenka failed to yield at the intersection as she was traveling south on State Road 23. Her vehicle struck a westbound vehicle driven by 53-year-old Vince Smith of Knox who was driving westbound on State Road 8, according to the report. Police say Smith’s vehicle then collided with a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Nathan Nichols who was attempting to turn south on State Road 23.
Smith was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Starke County EMS and the Washington Township Fire Department.
