Students and staff members of the Tri-Township Consolidated School Corporation gathered in front of the school building in Wanatah Friday morning to take time to celebrate the start of construction on the new building addition.
Superintendent Kelly Shepherd said site work has started with the removal of some trees and the installation of temporary fencing.
Shepherd said, “We’re adding five classrooms down here to Wanatah and it’s going to bring our high school students up here so we’ll all be on one campus. The process is underway so that we can secure a future for Tri-Township Schools.”
As for the future of the La Crosse School, Shepherd said there are no plans at the moment.
“My hope is that now that we got this initiated, some time in the coming months we get the right group of people together and get to work on what that next answer is for the old building in La Crosse.”
Shepherd told all of the students who participated in a pre-construction kick-off meeting that several partners needed to be recognized for their efforts toward the project including the Lion’s Club who agreed to the sale of adjoining parcels toward the construction of the addition, the Tri-Township Consolidated School Board, Performance Services for the project design, and the students and staff for support. Everyone gave a hearty thank you to those involved.
The construction of the addition will be complete in 2022 and it is the hope of school officials that all students will be at the school location in Wanatah for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
