The Winamac Town Council members took action Monday night to award a contract for Community Crossing Matching Grant work to Milestone Contractors North (formerly Walsh and Kelly).
Town Manager Brad Zellers said crews will work on Main Street down to the Winamac Town Park. He explained that the road is not the safest for travel as there is a hill in that area and drivers have a difficult time with sight and it is narrow. As part of the project, about four feet of road will be taken off of the crest of the hill and it will be leveled off to increase safety and sight. When the project is complete, the road will have room for two cars to safely pass on the west side by the pickleball courts.
The cost of the project is $162,563. The town’s cost will be $35,000 and the rest will be paid through the state’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program.
Zellers commented that there is no timeline yet on when the project will begin.
