Winamac Town Council Considers Ordinance Establishing Sanitation Fund

The Winamac Town Council members reviewed an ordinance Monday night that would establish a Sanitation Fund within the town’s budget.

Town Manager Brad Zellers said the town will begin collecting a $5.00 fee for sanitation collection for residential and commercial customers.

The funds collected will be used for payment of the town’s sanitation costs.  As previously reported, the fee may only cover a little more than half of what the town is being charged for the service, and the town’s trash removal contract calls for a three-percent increase each year. The proposed fee would bring in about $6,000 a month for the town.

A public hearing previously held on the proposed fee gathered no public comments.

The ordinance was approved and adopted Monday night.
