The adoption of the 2022 budget, an income tax restructuring, and a step toward a solar farm tax abatement are just a few of the items on tonight’s Pulaski County Council agenda. Tonight’s budget adoption will be the final step in a lengthy process that saw council members gather for a number of extra meetings.
They’ll also take public comments tonight on a proposed adjustment to the local income tax allocation. Pulaski County’s overall local income tax rate would stay the same, but a bigger portion would go to public safety, while less would go to economic development. Additionally, less of that public safety money would be earmarked specifically for 911 dispatch, allowing the county and its four towns to use it for other public safety purposes.
Meanwhile, council members will also consider designating the Moss Creek Solar project an economic revitalization area. That would make it eligible for a tax abatement. In exchange, the county would likely try to negotiate an economic development payment, which wouldn’t be subject to property tax caps.
Tonight’s Pulaski County Council meeting starts at 7:00 EDT in the Pulaski County Highway Garage, following a joint session with the county commissioners at 6:00. County officials are expected to discuss how to spend the county’s American Rescue Plan funds, and Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer will give updates on the two proposed solar projects, the Justice Center expansion, and the county’s COVID-19 response.
Both meetings will be streamed live on the Pulaski County, Indiana, Government Facebook page.
