DEA Sponsoring Drug Take Back Day this Saturday!

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring the 21st nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.

The Indiana State Police is partnering with the DEA to accept any expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at all ISP Police Posts with the exception of the Indiana Toll Road Post. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will have a collection event at the Walgreens parking lot on North Michigan Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.

Collection bins will be set up at Indiana State Police posts where troopers will collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to be disposed of in a safe way.  This program is for liquid and pill medications only, along with vaping pens without batteries and vaping cartridges.

This service is free to the community with no questions asked.  The event helps residents purge medications that could be susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.

According to the Indiana State Police, the action of flushing medications down the toilet or simply throwing them in the trash poses safety and health hazards.
