Election Days Removed from Knox City Employees’ Holiday Schedule

Knox city government employees will not get Election Day off in 2022. The city council Tuesday removed the primary and general election days from the 2022 holiday schedule, at the recommendation of Council Member Don Kring.

“It used to be they used to use these facilities to vote, okay?” he noted. “They haven’t done that in I don’t know how long . . . and it was understood that they needed to have a day off for that reason. And that worked back then, but I don’t think it should be a holiday or a day off for the employees anymore.”

Mayor Dennis Estok noted that employees have plenty of opportunities to vote. But beyond that, he said Knox has more holidays than the county or state and also more than it used to. “We get Thursday off, Thanksgiving, and Friday,” Estok said. “Christmas – I mean, if you look at some of these – we never got two days off for Christmas.”

Meanwhile, the Knox City Council agreed to continue holding its regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
