Engaging in an apparent 104-mile-per-hour speed contest on State Road 2 could lead to misdemeanor charges for two LaPorte residents. A LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy says he saw two vehicles traveling westbound side by side at an “unreasonably high rate of speed” near County Road 400 East around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
The drivers, Steven J. Allen, 56, and Rafael Jimenez Jr., 24, were both given speeding tickets and accused of engaging in a speed contest and reckless driving. Jimenez was also allegedly driving while suspended.
On Monday, Dmond L. Cross, 37, of Rolling Prairie was reportedly clocked going even faster on State Road 2, at 110 miles per hour. Captain Derek Allen says this degree of speeding “is an extremely dangerous driving behavior” and deputies will continue cracking down on speeding drivers.
