The state’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant program recently received more than 250 letters of intent requesting more than $606 million in grant funding with $280 million in matching funds for the opportunity to improve high speed internet connections in underserved areas across Indiana.
These initial requests come from internet service providers covering more than 140,000 homes, businesses and other locations, such as schools and health clinics.
Applicants must submit a 20 percent match.
The letters of intent are required prior to the application process. Decisions on how much can be awarded to projects, and what projects would receive funding will be determined in the spring of 2022.
Rural areas of Starke County, Pulaski County, La Porte County and Marshall County are areas of focus in several letters of intent from companies that offer broadband services. In all, if approved, these projects would serve over 14,000 homes, farms, schools and businesses with high speed, broadband service totaling about $43 million.
