Starke County Clerk Bernadette Manuel presented an order for consideration by the commissioners Monday night that would establish a precinct boundary authority to the Starke County Election Board.
She did say there were some changes to the Senate and House of Representative maps for Starke County.
“We are under one Senate,” stated Manuel. “In previous years, we had two state senators. Mr. [Ed] Charbonneau is no longer a senator in Starke County. Mike Bohacek is our only senator that Starke County has. Representative changes – District 16 holds now Railroad, Wayne, California, North Bend, Washington 2, and Center Townships. All of those are under Doug Gutwein. District 20 which is what Jim Pressel has only has Davis, Oregon, Jackson and Washington 1 now.”
Manuel told the commissioners that she does not think the county has to undergo reprecincting changes based on the population numbers from the census, but the Starke County Election Board will review it further in an upcoming meeting. She commented that the county districts may need to be amended, but she will review the population numbers again to determine if changes, in fact, need to be made.
