The Starke County Election Board members reviewed documents Wednesday morning concerning the redistricting and reprecincting process.
The redistricting and reprecincting process is typically done after a 10-year census and after the congressional maps are approved after assessing population numbers.
Clerk Bernadette Manuel said the population in Starke County increased by eight people in 10 years to a total population of 23,371, according to the census. The four Starke County Council districts are within the 10 percent deviation requirement so the council districts will stay the same.
When analyzing the precincts within the county, Manuel said the precinct population numbers are below 2,000 per precinct, so the board members also agreed to leave precincts alone as well.
The Starke County Commissioners will consider paperwork concerning the Starke County Election Board’s recommendations at an upcoming meeting.
