A recent multi-agency county-wide compliance check of sexually violent predators and offenders against children in La Porte County reportedly found three offenders to be non-compliant.

The compliance check, called Operation Candy Corn, targeted a total of 123 offenders in preparation for upcoming trick-or-treating activities throughout La Porte County.  All offenders were strongly encouraged not participate in trick-or-treat activities.

Police say arrest warrants were issued for sex offender registry violations for the three offenders including 47-year-old Rodney A. Wood, 38-year-old Charles D. Mercado, and 27-year-old Zhavaun Savado.

Wood and Savado were taken into custody October 25 by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department.  Police say Wood was released the same day after posting a cash bond, while Savado remains housed in the La Porte County Jail on a $15,005 cash-only bond through Superior Court 1.

Mercado was arrested October 28 by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team and remains housed in the La Porte County Jail without bond, according to the report.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department encourage members of the public to monitor the location of convicted offenders by viewing the Sex and Violent Offender Registry on the Sheriff’s Department’s website at www.laportecountysheriff.com.
