Winamac Town Park Disc Golf Course May Be On Hold

The Winamac Park Board is checking off the final items from its Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant. The new basketball hoops at the Town Park have been installed, but a disc golf course may have to wait, according to town manager and park board member Brad Zellers.

“You just can’t get a whole lot of stuff right now, so that may just put it on hold and we just don’t do it right now,” Zellers told the rest of the park board last month. “You know, we need to get that grant finished, though, so it is what it is.”

The City of Knox is also planning a disc golf course in Wythogan Park.

The Winamac Park Board originally applied for the grant back in 2018, but a federal government shutdown and the COVID-19 pandemic have slowed down the process. The grant project’s big-ticket items, like the new park restrooms and toddler playground, were largely completed last year.

Also during last month’s board meeting, Park Manager Aaron Spanley said it was time to look into fixing some sinkholes in the basketball courts and seal coating the Town Park’s trails. Board President Chris Schramm noted that one of the pickleball courts could also use some patching.
