Indiana State Police troopers are investigating an incident where they say a pedestrian died after being struck by a semi on I-94 in La Porte County Thursday morning.
Police say the Indiana State Police Lowell Dispatch Center received a call just after 7:15 a.m. CT from a trucking company that one of their drivers struck a pedestrian on I-94 in La Porte County. The trucking company had called about 45 minutes earlier stating that the driver had struck a deer and was waiting for a report at a rest park in Michigan at the one-mile marker, according to police.
Responding troopers located the pedestrian who was deceased near mile marker 45.5 in the eastbound lane. Police say that the preliminary investigation found that a red 2012 Volvo semi was traveling eastbound in the right lane when the pedestrian was struck.
The driver is cooperating in the investigation and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident.
The accident remains under investigation. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
The Indiana State Police was assisted at the scene by the La Porte County Coroner.
