North Judson-San Pierre School Board Discusses NEOLA Policy Concerning Narcan

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board members took time to review a NEOLA policy regarding Narcan as use as a medication during their most recent meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin explained to the board that administering Narcan at the corporation was an option at the school in 2018, but school officials and the school nurse were not comfortable with that option at that time.  Dr. Zupin said the corporation’s Safety Resource Officer (SRO) recommends that the corporation have it on hand.

“He just feels like it is in our best interest and we need to do our due diligence to make sure that all of our students and visitors and guests are safe,” stated Dr. Zupin.

Storage, training and accessibility of Narcan would be taken care of by the SRO.  Dr. Zupin noted that the SRO has already been trained in the administration of Narcan.

The board members were concerned about who all would be responsible for administration of Narcan. Dr. Zupin said she would speak with the SRO to iron out more of the details before readings are considered on NEOLA policies at the next meeting.
