Representatives from USI Consultants went over proposed sidewalk projects with the North Judson Town Council members last week.

North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said Mitch Hansel and Maggie Dickerson presented information on the three proposed areas which include the Hubeny Subdivision, the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation and the downtown area.

Rowe said the Hubeny Subdivision is in the area of the school which would create a safe pathway for residents and students.

Rowe stated, “We’re talking about putting sidewalks down on one side for now on each street – just students walking to school and that kind of thing it makes it a lot easier for them to traverse those streets, some of which are quite busy during those peak hours. That project would be available for federal dollars.  The school portion – there’s been some discussion with the school system and Dr. Zupin to basically help facilitate that on the school’s end.  They’d be willing to reimburse us for portions that involve the school property.”

Rowe said it is all about safety and ease of pedestrian traffic in those areas.

The preliminary estimate of the project is about $780,000.  If the project were to get federal funding, the town’s match would be $136,000 and the school’s match would be $46,000.

Rowe added that the project is anticipated to be done in 2027, but it could be bumped up the schedule if the town was awarded funding and if it is available.

The North Judson Town Council members approved a motion to apply for a federal grant for the Hubeny Subdivision.
