Pulaski County Commissioners Deny PERF for Coroner, Deputy Coroner

The Pulaski County Commissioners held discussion Monday night concerning PERF for the Pulaski County Coroner and Chief Deputy Coroner.

Commission President Chuck Mellon said the council members brought it back to the commissioners to approve the benefits.

Mellon said some information was provided about benefits from surrounding counties for employees.  He said he found that employees who make more than $10,000 did not receive full benefits. Mellon stated that the council did approve salaries for Coroner Jon Frain and Deputy Coroner John Behny in 2022 that are above $10,000.

In 2020, the commissioners approved a motion to move the coroner from part-time to full-time in an effort to enact benefits for the position. However, the council did not approve it in 2020 even with a favorable recommendation by the commissioners.   The Pulaski County Council did put the benefits into the budget for the coroner in 2022 so they forwarded the approval of benefits to the commissioners.

The commissioners voted unanimously to deny benefits for the coroner and deputy coroner during Monday night’s meeting, based on the information presented.

The coroner was not in attendance during the meeting to discuss the issue.
